This year is different.

This Christmas is going to be very different. And I couldn't be more excited. Honestly, I think this will be the best Christmas of my life so far.

I work the night shifts (6PM-6AM) on December 24th and December 25th and will have my trusty violin by my side the whole time. Christmas tunes all around! My patients are depending on me and have been confirming that I'm bringing it all month.

I had a pretty lame Christmas list this year... I asked for a printer? Maybe a crock pot? Target gift card? I secretly wanted a bike but we'll have to see about that one.

None of my excitement for next week is about the gifts. None of it. I seriously cannot WAIT to be with my family. I miss my parents (so much) and I need to see those little nephews of mine. I miss the Hafen Gang more than I thought I would.

My roommate Emilee and I have been talking about how as you move away from home, it doesn't even matter what gifts you want to Christmas; we have everything we need. Yeah, as college students a little extra cash would be nice or a new pair of running shoes; but honestly, we just want to be with our families and appreciate Christ.

Happy Holiday season to all of you!

9 days!

Nine days until the whole crew is back together again!
I'm the baby of the family... and I love it. I love that all my sibs are older. We have a good time.

Oh Hans. You dog.

Can't wait to see them in a little over a week... and can't wait to spend eternity with them.

No obligations.

The day after finals, we went up Emigration Canyon for post-finals brunch. After we ate, we realized we had no obligations to anyone. So we went up the canyon, parked our car, and had a blast.

I love these girls. More than they know.

Oh, happiness.

Man. I have so many blog ideas, I actually feel stressed out about it. Ha! The thought that I am stressed out over blogging is a dang good feeling.

Lately, I have just felt happy. Not because my life is perfect, but because I have chosen to feel this way. Things have fallen through, people have been mean; I've gotten in sticky situations and had my feelings hurt a few times. But. It is a decision to be happy.

100% my decision.

Yeah, work might be crappy one night. Yeah, maybe you didn't get much sleep. Or maybe the outfit you felt was really cute... just really wasn't. But. It is your decision to be happy.

This quote really changed my way of thinking:

“Suffering is always the effect of wrong thought in some direction. It is an indication that the individual is out of harmony with himself, with the Law of his being.”
― James Allen, As a Man Thinketh

No matter what, suffering is never justified. Someone has already done the suffering for you, it's your job to turn yourself in the "right direction".

I challenge you to be happy. Actually......
...I DARE you to be happy.
Triple dog dare.

Try it.

It'll be an easy challenge when life is good, but when it gets rough, you'll really have to kick it in gear.

Happy Saturday.

November Summary.

I wasn't too good at blogging towards the end of the semester, but I figured school was more important.

Here's a little summary on November, just for the sake of documenting history.

Skydiving. Yes. I went skydiving. Yes my Mom was freaked out. Yes I put my Dad and brother John as my liable guardians in case of emergency. And YES IT WAS AWESOME. The whole weekend was super fun. The crew was me, Garrett Clements, Cameron Cox, Emily Awerkamp, Peter Fuller, and Meghan Derrick. It was so fun. We left right after my biology exam and headed for Moab. We hiked a little, ate food, napped, stayed up late talking, made fires, roasted marshmallows and starbursts, and cooked our food with the exception of a few McDonalds runs. The boys went mountain biking and the girls hung around the camp. Definitely a solid weekend.

My Mom came up for my orchestra concert. What a FUN weekend that was. I love "Mom-Heidi-Abbey" time. SO MUCH. We went out to eat, shopped, and just hung out. I love you both. After class one day, Me and Grant met up with Heid and my mom for lunch.
My orchestra concert went really well! My cutie cute roommates all came to hear me. I am SO glad I decided to audition for the orchestra. I really do enjoy it and it's a nice way to kick back mid-week on Wednesday nights for several hours.

my BFF

IT SNOWED. I scraped my car for the first time. I drove home going 12mph from work and watched a few accidents happen right in front of me. I wear boots and scarves for protection now instead of for fashion. This is all a big deal for me!

my mom laughing and taking this pictures as she drives away... literally my first time.

boots and scarves. f'real.
Heidi and I worked together last month. That was so fun. I also played in her ward and I always love playing with her. I love my sissy!

Went to a Ute basketball game and I swear they were playing SCHS. The other team had almost IDENTICAL jerseys to Snow Canyon. It was so funny. We barely lost. By like 3 points. Still a fun game!

go SCHS... wait whaaaa?
Olivia Earl and Kennedy Neilson came up to SLC to go shopping and we met up at Noodles and Co, ate dinner, and caught up on life. It was SO good to see them! I love catching up with my friends from high school (still kind of weird to refer to them as 'friends from high school')

THANKSGIVNG WEEKEND IN ST. GEORGE: oh what a glorious few days that was. The drive down with Heid was great, I love sister time. I was so excited to see the fam. The whole weekend was a success. I got to spend a lot of quality time with my cousin Jordan and I loved that. Going to the corrals is always so good. I like getting on the fourwheeles and horses every once in a while.

love his shirt.
-loved seeing the boys and everyone in the fam (except Er. What the heck).
-My exec council got together and had a reunion, we skyped Marissa Martin at BYU- Hawaii and Irfan at Harvard. The whole gang was together!

-had a little girls night in my bedroom with the crew from STG.
-went on a bike ride/longboard ride with Garrett, Savannah Rea, and Henrie Walton one night. The weather was beautiful.

-met up with Carol Taylor for some ice cream. What a gem she is.

-David Lloyd gave his farewell talk. So good to hear him speak and see the crew.

hey essays. i hate you.
my cute roommate saw me running around the apartment one morning and when i got to school this was in my lunch :)
If you made it to the end of this post, high five. This was huge. But all in all, dang. I am blessed. I have learned that diligence in the small things in life bring you happiness. I am so blessed. Some days are hard and sometimes I want to go home. But you have to stick it out and rely on the Lord.
