Oatmeal & Brown Sugar

Right now I'm sitting on my bed, a Sunday morning, eating oatmeal with brown sugar and banana + glass of milk. I just read Alexa Leydsman's blog found here, and felt inspired.

I've been away from home for a good while now. I've written out rent checks, paid $50 for a dang car inspection, bought tubs of ice-cream, woken up at 5AM to write an essay, worked 15 hours straight, blown $120 on a skydiving ticket, and learned valuable life lessons from patients at work.

The skepticism of whether or not I came to the right place or not will creep in my head every once in a while... but it's safe to say that the Lord has a hand in all things, and if you trust Him, he won't leave you hangin'. I love where I am and know that I'm in the right place.

Last night we had a super random game night and it ended up being dang fun. Girls are better than boys at Catch Phrase and I was the spoons champion. I am surrounded by excellent people and am beyond grateful.

Some photos as of late:
I wear these shoes everyday. You think i'm exaggerating but I'm not. The U's campus is HUGE. no room for cheap sandals.

Crimsy, tempy, lakey, Rice-Eccley, and.. family.

(yes, I love to abbrev and add "ey" to the end of everything- get over it and blame Lori)

So after I stopped bawling over a paper I turned in 4 hours late for a class (on complete accident), I realized life is good! But isn't it always? I'm alive, I'm a student going to school, I eat food everyday, I've got a family, and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is true.

Heidi, me, Eric and his friend Russ drove home from SLC yesterday and it took FOREVER. We were bugged (mostly Heid and me) but Russ said "Hey, what's wrong with a nice drive with good company, a sunset, and sunflowers growing along the freeway. Nothing's wrong with that." Thanks Russ.

I'm sitting in our guest room at home with my favie sister just hanging out. We got back from a huge family reunion in Pinto a few hours ago- it's always to see all the cousins and catch up.

Recent Happenings:

crimson night (party at the U)

temple with Emilee
lake with Emilee and her fam fam

demonstrating Snapchat to my deprived roomates

first home game

my new buddies. so much fun.

That's all.

My humble abode.

I LOVE MY APARTMENT.

My roommates are clean and they are the BEST. I love all of them. Enough of that, here's some pickeys.

THE FRONT ROOM
Please note the orange/green croc combo. Yep, still goin' strong.
Cute little fireplace and balcony :)

THE KITCHEN

I've got great roommates. Just makin' baked goods all over the place.
Dining room table. LOVE.
THE BEDROOM. I share with Amber.
My side of the room. Wall hangings are in progress.
Again, wall hangings are in progress.
My desk. My seriously perfect sister built it for me. Took 5 hours.
Mah skoobooks (school books)
My super cute gray trunk. And floor lamp and bookshelf from Heidi. She's the best.
 THE BATHROOM. (inside our room)
BE JEALOUS. Only 2 of us share and it's huge.
clawsee (closet)
It was really late and we looked ugly. All in the name of blogging though, right?! No.

All in all, I love my place. I love this city. And I LOVE my roommates.

For now, peace and love,

A sentence a day.

If you see that I pin things on Pinterest, it means one of two things:

1. I'm caught up on instagram, my texts, emails, snap chats, phone preferences, blogs, instagram again, Facebook stalking, listening to voice memos, and I've scanned through all 1,000 photos on my camera roll
or 2. I am trying to avoid an awkward situation and all of the above are completed

I'm not a huge pinner, and I rarely do the crafts I pin. RARELY. I am anti-crafty, it's sad I guess.

BUT FOLKS. I did one of my pins. And it is the greatest thing I've ever done (well that's kind of an overstatement, but whatever).

first: get index cards and a recipe box. label the index cards by DAY. (so in the end, you'll have 365 index cards)
second: label the year and write one thing that happened that day. whether it be you started your first job, cleaned out your room, or got a really great compliment that day.
third: write down one thing every day. after a year, you will start over and start with the next year. as the years go by, you will remember that specific day however many years back.

fourth: be stoked that you are being crafty. unless this is normal for you, then just bask in your normal awesomeness.

a sentence a day. that's all.

that's all.

peace & love

Hi college.

So... I moved out. I miss my mom and dad, and my nephews. And my friends.. but college is cool. I started school today and I didn't get lost. Or miss the bus. I also have made new friends which I was really quite nervous about. One thing about me- I don't love change. I don't "thrive on it" or "look for ways I can grow". I just downright hate change. But it's been a good wakeup call, I have learned some unique things about myself. I sometimes just wish I could pass out a flyer to everyone I meet (specifically those with Y chromosomes) that say "I AM COOL. I PROMISE. I'M A GOOD FRIEND AND I AM FUN." But I can't do that- it would cost a lot of money to print all those flyers.

I've got good friends.

First week away from home? CHECK. Uphill from here (let's hope). Life has treated me pretty well. I feel as if I'm always saying that... and it's true. Life treats me so well. I feel a little out of the game since a lot of my friends are in grad school, even one in his PhD, but cheers to being the little fish. I'll embrace it.

For now,
peace and love.

just call me a daydreamer...

I guess you could say I'm a master daydreamer. I'm so good at it, that sometimes I can't recall if something actually happened or if I daydreamed it.

I also have my entire future planned out in my head. That's pretty dang good if you ask me.

Life is about to change over here for Abbey Hafen. It's about to change a whole lot. I've pretty much had control over every decision thus far- where I want to go to school, what I want to do, when I'm leaving, what classes I'm taking, where I'll work, etc. But the time is about to come... where things are just gonna happen. And my daydreams will be put on hold.

Life is about to happen. All I hope is that it doesn't leave a mark on my face when it slaps me.

Three cheers for daydreamers, may all your dreams come true.
